We’re looking for a Trainee Street Lighting Designer to join our Energy Infrastructure Services Team based at our Stoke Depot.

Right now, we’re looking for a Trainee Street Lighting Designer to join our Energy Infrastructure Services Team based at our Stoke Depot.

Within this role you’ll be assisting in the design of external lighting solutions and Street Lighting for standard and non-standard lighting work that comply with the relevant technical and commercial requirements. You’ll be learning to create solutions using standard & non-standard design principles, as well as supporting the Lighting and Grid business in delivering work for our Street Lighting PFI projects and existing customers in local authority and housing developer markets.

Other responsibilities will include taking an active support role in the examination of all design options to ensure the most effective option is chosen, whilst using standard and basic design principles to meet deadlines. This is whilst ensuring that workflows meet customers’ expectations and deliver great customer service. You’ll also provide technical design support for the wider Lighting and Grid team to achieve delivery of a flexible, high quality, customer focused and cost effective service. This is whilst applying current and future company commercial and design policies, whilst ensuring the highest appropriate standards of safety are always met.

Other key responsibilities include:
Identifying opportunities to improve the Lighting Design process

Examine all design options to ensure the most effective option is chosen, using standard designs and basic design principles

Design projects to engineering standards – COP, statutory requirements e.g. CDM, etc

Ensuring the highest appropriate standards of safety are always met

The delivery of a flexible, high quality, customer focused and cost effective service within the Highways activity

What we need from you

Key Skill Requirements:
Committed to completing an Institution of Lighting Professionals Exterior Lighting Diploma alongside on the job training. This will include a 1 week college residential per each module

Financial and commercial awareness

A pro-active and creative approach to problem solving

Oral and written communication, interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to take A confident and diplomatic approach with staff, colleagues and customers

Numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and information and produce it in a clear and logical format

A working knowledge of mainframe and PC based computer systems and the ability to adapt quickly to changes to those systems

Desirable

Existing/previous experience of working within a Street Lighting environment
